CopperTrace

An independent engineering notebook documenting practical work in electronics, embedded systems, RF, test and measurement, automation and hardware reverse engineering.

About me

I am a Chief Electronics Engineer within Radiotherapy Physics, leading a specialist engineering team responsible for the maintenance, repair and technical support of complex equipment used in cancer treatment.

Although I now have a leadership role, I have always enjoyed the practical side of engineering: fault finding, understanding how systems work, building test equipment and turning ideas into working hardware and software.

Outside of work I spend much of my engineering time experimenting with embedded systems, microcontrollers, RF and SDR, Linux, test equipment and hardware reverse engineering. I enjoy projects that cross the boundary between electronics and software, particularly when measurement and automation can make a difficult problem easier to understand.

Why CopperTrace?

CopperTrace is where I document selected personal engineering projects and the process behind them. The aim is to keep a useful record of measurements, experiments, failures and solutions rather than only showing the finished result.

Current work includes reverse engineering compact laboratory power hardware, automated electronic test infrastructure and modular RF sensing research.
